Our selection of brass fittings varies depending on the purpose and application. Automotive brass nuts, caps, connectors, and bushings can be used in a variety of settings. There are also brass car fittings and fasteners, including brass bushings and inverted nuts. These brass products are available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate most car and truck applications.
Brass is a great material for plumbing and waterworks systems. It is highly durable and can withstand high and low temperatures. Unlike many other metals, brass won't rust or corrode. This means you can depend on it for years to come. And despite its durability and dependability, brass is inexpensive and a great choice for your project.
Brass fittings can be cast, extruded, or forged. The forged method uses high-pressure to form an even, dense material. The grain flow follows the shape of the fitting, providing high impact strength and resistance to vibration and mechanical shock. Forged fittings typically feature rounded edges, while extruded parts have squared corners.
Different types of brass fittings perform different functions in the plumbing system. Some are used as on-off valves, which allow you to turn on and off water flow. They are typically found in entrance areas of the home and near the water meter. An on-off valve makes it easy to turn the water off when you're not using it.
For threaded brass fittings, you can use silicone-based joint compound or Teflon tape to prevent leaks. NPT threads are tapered, and the Teflon tape should be wrapped around the thread before applying the joint compound. Tape can be wiped off easily after application. A small brush is helpful for spreading the flux on the threads. After the tape has dried, the brass fitting can be slipped on the pipe. Once on the pipe, rotate the fitting so it fits properly. Then, you should heat the joint with a propane torch. The fluid should become black and start to smoke.
The fittings that were analyzed were 90deg elbow plumbing fittings. The fittings had significant deposits on their OD surface. The fitting was also cross-sectioned and revealed heavy internal deposits, which indicated a stagnant state or low flow velocity. The deposits were mostly composed of zinc and aluminum oxide. In addition to these metals, sulfur and chlorine were also found in the deposits.
